Removals UK to Netherlands
Britannia Bennetts provides carefully planned removals from the UK to the Netherlands for households, individuals and businesses relocating to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven and destinations throughout the country.
Our family-run company has handled international moves since 1987. We can coordinate your survey, professional packing, collection, secure storage, customs preparation, transport and final delivery through one experienced removals team.
Tell us where you are moving from, your Dutch destination, what needs to be transported and whether you require packing or storage. We will assess the move and prepare a clear written quotation based on the actual requirements.
Planning Your Move to the Netherlands
A move from the UK to the Netherlands involves more than transporting furniture between two properties. The volume, access, packing requirements, customs documents, transport arrangement, delivery address and availability of the Dutch property must all be reviewed before collection.
Britannia Bennetts manages each stage from the initial survey to delivery. Your quotation explains the agreed services, the information required from you and how the collection, customs and delivery stages will be organised.
Your move can be combined with export packing, home packing services and secure self storage.
Visit the main International Removals page for information about our wider European and overseas services.

Services for Your Netherlands Move
Household Removals
We plan household moves around the size of your UK property, the volume being transported, access at both addresses and your destination in the Netherlands.
Furniture can be protected and dismantled where suitable. Labelled boxes and furniture are placed according to your instructions when the consignment reaches the Dutch property.
Commercial Removals
Businesses moving furniture, equipment, records, stock or operational resources to the Netherlands can request a commercial relocation plan based on the volume, timetable and handling requirements.
Commercial goods may require different declarations from personal household belongings, so the contents and intended use should be discussed before the quotation is confirmed.
Export Packing
Belongings travelling internationally may require stronger protection than items moving locally. Our team can provide full packing, part packing or selected-item protection.
Fragile belongings, artwork, antiques and high-value pieces should be declared during the survey so the appropriate materials and handling requirements can be assessed.
Storage Before Export
Storage can help when your UK property must be vacated before the Dutch property is ready, when a tenancy has not started or when completion and collection dates do not align.
Britannia Bennetts can collect your belongings, place them into secure storage at the Malvern facility and coordinate onward transport when you are ready for delivery.
Dutch Customs and Moving Paperwork
The United Kingdom is outside the European Union, so personal belongings entering the Netherlands normally require an import declaration.
People transferring their normal residence may be able to import qualifying household effects without paying import duties when the applicable conditions are met. The exemption is not automatic and must be addressed as part of the customs declaration.
Dutch Customs states that the removal company normally submits the import declaration and exemption request through its customs declaration system. The customer must provide the requested evidence and a signed inventory.
Britannia Bennetts can explain the information required for the removal and help prepare the moving inventory, but we do not provide legal, immigration or tax advice.
Signed Inventory
A clear inventory should list the personal and household belongings being imported into the Netherlands.
Items should be described accurately, and unusual, restricted or high-value belongings should be identified separately.
Municipal Registration
Dutch Customs may request a certificate showing registration in the municipality's Personal Records Database and the date on which you settled in the Netherlands.
Alternative Evidence
When municipal registration is not yet available, other evidence may be requested, such as proof of deregistration from the UK together with an employment contract, employer statement, work permit, rental agreement or mortgage document.
Ownership and Use
Eligibility for relief can depend on how long belongings have been owned and used before the move and whether they will continue to be used for the same purpose after arrival.
Vehicles and Special Items
Cars, motorcycles, alcohol, tobacco, pets, plants, medicines, weapons, cultural goods and commercial stock may follow separate procedures or restrictions.
Current Requirements
Customs forms, accepted evidence, relief conditions and restricted-item rules can change. Check the current requirements before the collection date.
Review the current guidance on the Dutch Customs website and supply all requested documents within the agreed timescale.
Netherlands-Specific Delivery Planning
Amsterdam Canal Houses
Traditional canal houses can have steep, narrow staircases, small landings and limited lift access. Larger furniture may not fit through the internal route.
Provide photographs and measurements before the move so alternative handling or a furniture hoist can be considered where necessary.
City Parking and Loading
Central areas of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht can have restricted loading, permit requirements, narrow streets and limited space for a larger vehicle.
Local parking or loading arrangements should be checked before the delivery date.
Apartments and Lifts
Confirm the floor number, lift dimensions, shared entrance rules and permitted delivery times with the building manager or landlord.
Longer carrying distances or restricted lift access can affect the labour and equipment required.
Historic Town Centres
Properties in older districts can have narrow approaches, pedestrian zones, bridges, weight restrictions and limited turning space.
Full address details and photographs of the approach help us assess the final delivery stage.
Rural Properties
Rural addresses may involve narrow lanes, small bridges, gated access or limited space for the delivery vehicle.
Clear directions, access measurements and information about any restrictions should be provided during the survey.
Property Handover
Confirm when keys will be available and whether a landlord, agent, building manager or responsible contact will be present.
Someone must be available to provide access and confirm where furniture and labelled boxes should be placed.
How Your Belongings Can Travel
Groupage or Part-Load
A smaller consignment may share transport capacity with other compatible removals travelling towards the Netherlands.
This option can suit one-room moves, several pieces of furniture, personal effects, students or smaller households. Delivery dates normally require more flexibility because several consignments must be coordinated.
Dedicated Transport
A larger household or commercial move may be better suited to dedicated vehicle or container capacity.
The consignment does not share the reserved capacity with unrelated customer loads, allowing collection and delivery to be planned around the dedicated route. Suitability is confirmed after the survey.

UK to Netherlands Removals FAQs
Answers to common questions about planning removals from the UK to the Netherlands.
1. How long does a removal from the UK to the Netherlands take?
Timing depends on the UK collection address, Dutch destination, volume, transport arrangement, customs processing and access at both properties. Groupage and part-load services normally require a wider delivery window than dedicated transport. An estimated schedule is provided after the move has been assessed.
2. What customs paperwork is required?
Personal belongings normally require an import declaration, signed inventory and supporting evidence showing that you are relocating to the Netherlands. This may include municipal registration or alternative evidence such as an employment contract, rental agreement or mortgage document. Exact requirements depend on your circumstances and should be checked before collection.
3. Will I have to pay import duty on my household belongings?
People transferring their normal residence may qualify for relief from import duties on eligible personal belongings when the applicable conditions are met. The relief is not automatic. The removal company normally addresses the exemption within the import declaration, while the customer supplies the requested inventory and supporting evidence.
4. Can you arrange delivery to an Amsterdam apartment or canal house?
Yes, subject to an access assessment. Canal houses and older apartments can have narrow stairs, limited lifts, restricted loading areas and furniture that may require external hoisting. Provide photographs, floor details and measurements during the survey so the appropriate delivery method can be considered.
5. Can you store my belongings before delivery?
Yes. Britannia Bennetts offers secure storage at the Malvern facility when the UK property must be vacated before the Dutch property is ready. Collection, storage and onward international transport can be included within one moving plan.
6. Can you handle a smaller part-load move?
Yes. Groupage or part-load transport can suit one room, several pieces of furniture, student belongings or selected personal effects. Your belongings share transport capacity with other compatible consignments, so the delivery schedule normally requires more flexibility.
